God-Focused, Not Giant-Focused

We All Face Giants
We all face giants—some loud, some quiet, some seen, some hidden.
Giants can look like fear, depression, anger, financial strain, broken relationships, or habits we can’t seem to break. They stand tall and whisper that we’re not enough.
But in the story of David and Goliath, we learn something powerful:
the battle was never David’s to win.
David’s Backstory: God Had Already Proven Himself
Before David ever stepped onto the battlefield, he had already learned to trust God.
“The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!”
— 1 Samuel 17:37 (NLT)
While Israel’s army trembled in fear, David stepped forward with bold confidence:
“Don’t worry about this Philistine… I’ll go fight him!”
— 1 Samuel 17:32 (NLT)
David’s courage wasn’t rooted in his own strength—it flowed from knowing the faithfulness of God.
God-Focused, Not Giant-Focused
When David stood before Goliath, he refused to focus on the size of the giant.
Instead, he focused on the greatness of his God.
“You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”
— 1 Samuel 17:45 (NLT)
And he boldly declared:
“This is the Lord’s battle, and He will give you to us!”
— 1 Samuel 17:47 (NLT)
David ran toward the battle because he knew God was already there—and with one stone, God brought the giant down.
Your Giants Are Not Bigger Than God
Whatever you’re facing today—fear, struggle, addiction, disappointment, anxiety—none of it is bigger than the God who fights for you.
When you surrender your giants to God, He steps in with His strength, His power, and His victory.
You are not alone.
This is His battle.
And He still brings giants down.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
I surrender every giant I am facing. Help me shift my focus from what threatens me to the God who defends me. Fight for me, strengthen me, and lead me to victory.
In Jesus' Name, Amen
Founded in Grace,
Joe
